New Android Platform Offers Improvements On The Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The new Samsung Galaxy Nexus mobile device has been receiving some superb reviews since it was released last month. There are many things to love about this new model including the extremely modern design and the high quality display. There is one aspect of this model however that is a key factor behind the its popularity and this is the new Ice Cream Sandwich version of the Android operating system that it uses.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first phone to be released that runs on the ICS system although some more recent Android phones will have an update made available very soon. This new platform feels entirely different from earlier versions such as Froyo and Gingerbread because it has been based on the Honeycomb system that was recently developed for tablet devices. The interface feels fresh because of this change and it looks superb. All of the icons that are displayed on screen have been redesigned and the whole interface is packed full of some wonderful 3D effects and transitions. ICS has not only had some cosmetic adjustments but the workings of the platform have also been overhauled. The result of this is some impressive new features and performance that is smoother and faster than ever. Perhaps the biggest single change in how the system works is that the context menu key has now been removed. This key previously displayed various options related to the function you were using at the time. These options have now been incorporated into the applications own interface thus removing the need for the key.

Core applications on ICS for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus have all been updated and offer some great improvements over previous versions. The new People application displays a much less cluttered interface and only presents you with the most important information on the main screen. Additional data can be accessed via tabs located at the top of the screen. The Calendar feature now boasts improved functionality and better navigation and may well become one of the most utilised facilities on this model. The Galaxy Nexus features a powerful dual core processor which is perfect for multitasking and the new operating system also offers improvements in this area. Android has sported multitasking for a long time now but on previous versions you would need to hold the home key down for two seconds in order to view which applications were currently running. ICS boasts a dedicated key for this feature which displays a list of all of your programs together with a thumbnail of the application icon.

The new Ice Cream Sandwich software on the Samsung Galaxy nexus is one of the main reasons why this new model is such a pleasure to use. Visually the new platform looks better than ever whilst the improved functionality makes it the easiest system to operate.
